About Scott Stoneham
Scott Stoneham is the Founder of Lonestar Bucket Trucks in Fort Worth, TX., a company that specializes in providing bucket trucks and other specialty vehicles required in the electric power line and outdoor services industries. He is also the President of LoneStar Enterprises Limited, an umbrella LLC he launched to manage his multiple business ventures in the automotive and utility vehicle industries. Scott’s success is due to his expert marketing skills and unconventional business acumen, which have enabled him to transition from selling high-end automobiles to distributing heavy machinery and commercial trucks. Since launching his utility truck commercial dealership, Scott’s company has experienced consistent growth at a rapid pace, demonstrating its phenomenal success in a niche automotive market.
Stoneham’s achievements are made even more remarkable when you consider that he suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury in 2012 after falling approximately 14 feet through a collapsed deck. The resulting accident broke both his legs and a shoulder, along with severe damage to his L3 vertebrae. After a 12-hour surgery, Scott used a wheelchair for almost 2 years and spent countless hours in therapy, working extremely hard just to walk.
Stoneham attributes his recovery to the Grace of God, an unbelievably talented team of surgeons and healthcare specialists, along with his unflinching determination to lead a life without limitations. This experience, which could have been a setback, only fueled his determination to succeed. Today, he continues to live with a new normal of managing his spinal cord injury. Still, he is extremely grateful and feels incredibly blessed to have the ability to walk and conduct a relatively normal life.
Scott’s never-give-up spirit is the foundation of his business decisions. Regardless of economic or market sector challenges, he forges ahead, delivering unparalleled customer support and driving business development in multiple heavy vehicle markets. His expertise, honed at Texas Tech University’s Rawls College of Business, instills confidence in his strategic thinking and ability to identify opportunities for business growth.
Automotive Financing Manager
It was while attending Texas Tech University to obtain his Bachelor of Business degree that Scott Stoneham got his start in the automotive financing business. His ability to successfully close deals and exceed customer expectations was instrumental in his promotion to Finance Manager, followed by roles as Finance Director and then Director of Sales. After graduating from Texas Tech, he was offered a director position at Van Tuyl Automotive. This privately held dealership was later acquired by Berkshire Hathaway Automotive, where he performed exceptionally.
Online vehicle sales across the country continued to grow, and Scott realized the potential of serving a niche market that withstood economic fluctuations better than the typical luxury automotive and truck sales industry. He set about learning not only the market demand and value of these impressive vehicles, but he also taught himself each vehicle’s unique features and how they could potentially help business owners and municipalities increase productivity and efficiency. In 2005, Scott elected to leave his lucrative position at Van Tuyl and open an online dealership selling high-end, specialty vehicles.
Expert Business Developer
Scott Stoneham/s business grew extremely fast, and he was pleased with the customer base he had established in high-end vehicles. However, the economic collapse of 2008 halted much of the business that Stoneham had developed over the previous years. He had millions of dollars of specialty and high-end vehicles in inventory, but his customers were unable to obtain the financing needed for their automotive investments. High-end vehicle sales came to a halt, and his recently very successful auto dealership quickly became financially insolvent.
Scott made a pivot and returned to work for large dealer groups, achieving great success. In 2016, he once again opted to open a new business in a new field. Stoneham applied the sales and marketing skills he had developed in the car business to the heavy equipment and commercial truck sectors, particularly in the bucket truck industry. He recognized that the demand for these highly efficient and versatile trucks, which are used across multiple industries to reach difficult locations quickly, would increase as municipalities focused on upgrading their utility infrastructure to meet an increasing demand for power, communications, and internet services.
Stoneham’s success as a utility vehicle dealership exemplifies his ability to leverage key industry partnerships and develop a loyal customer base. He not only understands his target audience and the significance of heavy equipment to their operations, but he has also established industry trust and recognition through his product expertise and exceptional customer service. As a business developer, Stoneham’s ability to think strategically and identify opportunities has been key to driving business growth. He has a knack for seeing potential where others might see obstacles, and this has been a significant factor in his success.
Personal Life
When Scott is not working to expand the utility vehicle market share at Lonestar Bucket Trucks, he is actively involved in the community. He attends fundraisers and donates to several worthy charities, demonstrating his commitment to giving back. His lifelong passion for automobiles, particularly rare and unique ones, is also a part of his personal life. His knowledge of American muscle cars and classic vehicles, including engine specifications and modifications, is truly impressive.
Scott attributes his automotive mastery to his years growing up in Texas, where he was a complete gearhead and a Ford Mustang fanatic. His passions evolved into a fascination and a desire to know everything there was to know about automobiles, engines, transmissions, and even electric vehicles (EVs). It is this same fervor for all things automotive that has underpinned Scott’s success in the luxury car and utility vehicle markets.
